New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk pleaded no contest to misdemeanor marijuana charges and received a year of probation. Judge Herman Clause also suspended a five-month sentence on Tuesday, according to the clerk of court’s office in Lafayette Parish. Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana at a Li’l Wayne concert at the Cajundome in February.

The New England Patriots didn’t do much this off-season, which is why not much has changed in the American Football Conference.

That was how Rodney Harrison responded when asked if he gave retirement any thought this offseason.

At age 35 and coming off an emotionally draining season, it would certainly have been understandable if Harrison wavered throughout his time off. His year started with the embarrassment of a four-game suspension that came as a result of his violation of the league’s banned substances policy and the “Spygate” scandal that threatened the moral fiber of the team. It then progressed as the Patriots ran roughshod over the league for the better part of three months.

As the wins piled up, so did the pressure to remain perfect. But Harrison and his teammates were up to the challenge until the bitter end.

Willie Andrews was released by the Patriots on Tuesday, a day after his second arrest this offseason.

Andrews, a third-year defensive back, was arrested Monday and held without bail after being charged with illegal possession of a large capacity firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon. He allegedly pointed a handgun at his girlfriend’s head during an argument about 1 a.m. at his apartment in Mansfield, Mass. In February, Andrews was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after being pulled over by authorities in Lowell, Mass. Andrews, 24, was drafted in the seventh round in 2006. He played primarily on special teams in two seasons with the Patriots, totaling 23 tackles and returning four kickoffs for 149 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown Oct. 21 against Miami. The Patriots also announced the signing of their sixth-round pick, linebacker Bo Ruud.
